Two New Devices from HIMS and new Braille Sense Firmware |
February 7, 2012 |
| |
HIMS at the recent ATIA conference in Florida unveiled two new products. The Braille Sense U2 note taker and the Braille Edge 40 Braille Display.
Introducing Braille Sense U2
The Braille Sense U2 is the latest generation of the Braille Sense note taker line. It provides a number of improvements to the Braille Sense Plus platform and takes it a step above all competing braille note takers on the market today.
The Braille Sense U2 features a new updated processor that is the fastest in any note taker currently sold. It has 32 Gigabytes of internal flash memory, four times more than competing note takers. It is the only note taker that has a built in GPS sensor, electronic compass and accelerometer. By adding the optional Sendero GPS maps, you can have the most accurate and detailed GPS solution all integrated within a single device. It also comes standard with VGA output and a built-in LCD visual display for sighted assistance. It has integrated Wireless B G and N networking, Ethernet and support for 3G modems, the most networking options of any note taker all built in at no extra charge. It comes with three USB Host ports, 1 USB mini port and an SDHC Card slot for even more storage capacity.
Braille Sense is also the only line of braille note takers where software updates are always completely free. Other note taker manufacturers charge hundreds of dollars for their software updates.
The Braille Sense U2 blows the doors off of every other braille note taker on the market today, and for the month of February it is available at a 10% discount. If you are thinking about electronic refreshable note taking, this is definitely the way to go!
Braille Sense 6.2 Firmware Release
Speaking of free upgrades, the new version 6.2 software update is now available for download for all older Braille Sense models. This will work with the Braille Sense OnHand, the Braille Sense Plus, the Braille Sense Plus QWERTY, the Voice Sense and the Voice Sense QWERTY.
Of most interest to Canadian users will be:
Support for the new optional Sense Dictionary and Thesaurus, available as an add-on.
Support for the external USB visual display for Braille Sense PLUS QWERTY and Voice Sense.
Improvements to Bluetooth Printing
Improvements to DAISY Playing
Improvements to Twitter
Introducing Braille Edge 40
The Braille Edge 40 is part of a new generation of refreshable braille displays which blur the line between display and note taker while leveraging the power of mainstream electronic devices.
In it’s simplest form it is a Bluetooth and USB connected braille display. It can interface with conventional Windows computer screen readers such as JAWS, Window Eyes, SuperNova, and NVDA. In addition also supports mobile phones running TALKS and Mobile Speak. For the Mac fanatics it supports VoiceOver as well.
Built in to the display there are additional features that can operate without a computer including a Notepad, Scheduler, Alarm, Clock, Calculator, Stop Watch and a Countdown Timer.
It’s built-in SDHC memory slot ensures that you will never run out of storage space and the 20 hour battery ensures you’ll never run out of power while you read your favorite books and documents on the go.
